Amber S. Nelson, 32, of Hebron, was charged with DUI and other traffic citations following a car crash on Route 47 late Tuesday night.

A Hebron woman was charged today with driving under the influence after her car crossed the center line on Route 47 and collided with a tractor trailer, McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said.

Amber S. Nelson, 32, 11102 Seaman Rd., is recovering from injuries she sustained the late Tuesday night accident at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford, Nygren said in a release.

Sheriff deputies met with Nelson at the hospital and learned her medical blood draw for blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit, Nygren said. She was then formally charged with DUI.

Nelson was driving a 1997 Chevrolet sedan at about 10:47 p.m. on Route 47 south of State Line Road in unincorporated Hebron. She was traveling southbound and collided with a semi tractor trailer heading north, Nygren said.

The semi driver told investigators Nelson's car crossed the center line, entered the northbound lane and collided with his vehicle. The semi driver told officers he tried to swerve out of the way, but couldn't avoid the collision.

Nelson was flown from the crash site to the hospital, where her injuries appear to be non-life threatening, Nygren said. The semi driver was not injured.

The Hebron/Alden/Greenwood Fire Protection Districts also responded to the scene.
