Woman Arrested for Child Endangerment, Operating Illegal Day Care

Sheriff's Office is saying she watched over up to 12 children alone at her residence.

A McHenry County woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly ran an illegal day care at her residence in Woodstock.

Annette T. Zender, 52, of 15704 N. US Rte. 14 in Woodstock was charged with three counts of endangering the life and health of a child after an investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Children and Family Services.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a young child sustained an injury on April 11 while being cared for by Zender. The young child required emergency medical care.

As a result of the investigation, Sheriff's Deputies and DCFS case workers learned that Zender would provide unlicensed child care for up to 12 children under the age of 6 by herself. Investigators also observed three unsecured ponds on Zender’s property along with pieces of large equipment that could pose a danger in the presence of children, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Zender was taken into custody Monday after a warrant was obtained.

Zender's bond was set at $1,000 and she was given a May 17 court date.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is continuing the investigation.
