Village Board to Act on Appointment of New Cary Police Chief, Steve Casstevens

After a national search and a pool of 100 candidates, Mr. Casstevens will be the active police chief on Jan. 18

Tonight, the Village board will consider for approval the appointment of Steve Casstevens as the new Police Chief for the Village of Cary.

Once approved, Casstevens position will be effective Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011.

In a press release, Mayor Tom Kierna said, "The Village board and I are happy with the outcome of our recent national search to fill the position of Chief."

"Steve Casstevens is going to be an excellent Police Chief and a wonderful addition to our outstanding management team," he said.

Casstevens was picked from a pool of over 100 candidates who submitted applications for the Police chief position. Voorhees Associates LLC managed the national search.

Casstevens has over 31 years of law enforcement experience. For the past 30 years, he has worked for the Village of Hoffman Estates, where he began as a patrol officer to his current position as the Assistant Chiefs of Police.

Prior to working for police departments in Illinois, he served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division as a Military Police officer.

He has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Management from Judson University. A degree was one of the requirements for the Police Chief position.

"I look forward to the opportunity to serve the residents of the Village of Cary," Casstevens said in a press release. "Cary is a wonderful, safe and vibrant community and with the ongoing professionalism and dedication of the Cary Police Department Officers and staff, we're going to continue the great strides that Cary has made and accomplish great things together," he continued in the press release.

The starting salary for Casstevens with the village will be $110,000.
