and Crystal Lake Crime Stoppers are seeking information regarding the case of damaged greens and tee boxes at the city's oldest private golf course.
Police said unknown person or persons damaged the greens and tee boxes of multiple holes at , 721 Country Club Rd.
The damage occured during the overnight hours of Friday, Aug. 31 and early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 1, according to Kimberly Shipbaugh, community relations officer for the CLPD.
Steve Vanacker, CC golf course superintendent, said it appeared the vandals used a golf club to repeatedly swipet huge divets out of greens and tee boxes near the 17th hole. Grounds keepers also found beer cans and bottles littered throughout the course, he said.
"They probably caused about $3,000 in damage," Vanacker said. "We work all summer trying to keep it nice, and then someone comes in and messes it all up in about an hour's time."
Police and Crime Stoppers are turning to the public for assistance in solving the crime. Anyone who may have observed suspicious subjects or vehicles in the area is asked to contact the Crystal Lake Police Department.
