Two Charged in Armed Robbery, Battery of Pizza Delivery Man

Suspects charged with felonies, but only got away with pizza and pop

“It is our understanding that they ordered the pizza and they waited for the pizza delivery man to come. It was all pre-meditated,” said Sgt. Michael Cisner, of the .

The pizza deliveryman arrived at the residence on the 2800 block of West Henzada Ave., McHenry, Wednesday night, and rang the doorbell twice. There was no answer so he headed back to his car, explained Cisner.

Before getting back into the car, a man appeared in the driveway and was waving to the deliveryman to come back. Cisner said the deliveryman’s instinct told him something wasn’t right. Before he could get back to his car, a second person came to the car and hit it with a wooden stick. His accomplice took the pizza and pop. The victim got in the car, as the stick-wielding offender hit him in the arm, according to Cisner.

The victim put the car in reverse and took off. Once back at the pizza shop, police were called. That was about 10:45 p.m., said Cisner. The alleged offenders only got away with the pizza and pop.

Police returned to the area with a canine patrol. Cisner said officers canvassed the neighborhood and found the alleged offenders at their residence, 2805 W. Henzada Ave., next door to the address of the bogus pizza delivery.

The suspects were taken into custody by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, where they were interviewed and confessed to the crime. They are being held at the McHenry County Jail awaiting bond to be set.

Both offenders were charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony and aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
