Two Arrested for Theft, Battery, Conspiracy

Sheriff responds to call at Algonquin tobacco store.

Two Crystal Lake residents were arrested for battery, retail theft and conspiracy.

Christopher Machroli, 28, and Samuel Milliman, 22, were each arrested after an Algonquin business clerk called 911 during a theft.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was placed to the McHenry County Sheriff on Nov. 22 asking for assistance at House of Tobacco in Algonquin for a report of a retail theft in progress.

When sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene the store clerk explained that after two male subjects entered the store, one concealed a carton of cigarettes under his clothing. The store clerk was able to retrieve the cigarettes from the subject but the second subject exited the store and drove away, according to the sheriff's office.

The clerk tried to detain the remaining subject, who used physical force in order to flee the area on foot.

According to the sheriff's office report, video surveillance was obtained. With the help of investigators, one of the offenders was identified, which lead to the identification of the second offender, Machroli.

Machroli was located and arrested Nov. 24 and charged with battery and retail theft. A warrant for conspiracy was issued for Milliman, who was taken into custody Nov. 30.

Machroli, of the 600 block of Cress Creek Lane in Crystal Lake, was held on $1,500 bond. A court date of Dec. 13 was scheduled for him.

Milliman, of the 600 block of Greenbriar Lane, was held on $1,000 bond and was scheduled a Dec. 15 court date.
