UPDATE: Route 176 in Crystal Lake Re-Opens in Crystal Lake

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area of Route 176 and Hickory Drive until further notice.

UPDATE 3 p.m. Monday

Route 176 has re-opened in Crystal Lake between Hickory Drive and Route 14.

The portion of the road was closed due to the storm on Sunday that downed several power lines.

------------------------------
Original Story:

The Crystal Lake Police Department on Sunday night issued a traffic alert stating a portion of Route 176 will remain closed until further notice while workers strive to repair downed power lines.

Route 176 will remain closed between Hickory Drive and Route 14, Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior said in a news release.

The closure is the result of storm damage to utility poles and electric power lines, he said.

A detour route has been established, moving traffic around the closed roadway.

Motorists should avoid traveling in this area unless necessary, and should expect delays to normal commuting times through the Route 176 corridor, Dziewior said.

ComEd crews are in the area and are engaged in restoring electric service to those affected by power outages. Crystal Lake residents are encouraged to report power outages and downed lines directly to Com Ed at 1-800-EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661).

Spanish speaking customers should call 1-800-95 LUCES (1-800-955-8237).

Anyone encountering a downed power line is urged to stay away from it, and assume all lines are energized and extremely dangerous
