Teen Girl Arrested for Filing a False Abduction Report

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren announced the arrest of a 17-year-old girl who was chargd with disorderly conduct and falsely reporting an offense.

Nygren said in a press release that the sheriff's office received a call on Sept. 16, that the teenager had run away from home.

Deputies responded and conducted an investigation.

Two days later, the sheriff's office received a call that the teen girl had returned home and told her family she had been abducted by an unknown man and woman, who drove her to an unknown location and held against her will.

The teen was taken toa local hospital to receive medical attention, which revealed she had no injuries, Nygren said.

An investigation revealed the girl fabricated the entire story to stay out of trouble with her parents. Investigators eventually discovered the teen was with friends at a location in McHenry County.

The teen was arrested and charged with one count disorderly conduct and one count of falsely reporting an offense. She was released to the custody of her parents. Both charges are Class A misdemeanors.
