Swim Instructor Guilty of Fondling Children

McHenry man to be sentenced in May.

A 21-year-old swim instructor was found guilty Friday of fondling two young boys during swim lessons, according to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s office.

Rock Burman, of McHenry, was found guilty of two counts aggravated criminal sexual abuse in a jury trial, authorities said. His sentencing is set for May 20.

Burman faces a possible sentencing range of probation to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The evidence at trial revealed that the defendant, a former instructor at Health Bridge Fitness Center in Crystal Lake, touched two different boys during their swim lessons. Immediately following the lesson, one of the young boys told his father of the encounter.  That disclosure led to the investigation and discovery of another victim.  Neither of the boys knew each other and their disclosures regarding the abuse were almost identical, authorities said.
