Student Injured During Crystal Lake South Homecoming Parade

A student was injured while attempting to jump onto one of the float entries in the parade.

A student was struck and injured Friday afternoon by a moving float during the Crystal Lake South Homecoming Parade. 

Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior said a CL South High School student at about 4 p.m. Oct. 11 attempted to board a small utility trailer that was being towed by a sports utility vehicle. The trailer was a float in the parade. 

As the student attempted to board the float, his/ her foot became entangled with a moving wheel and the ground, and subsequently the wheel rolled over the student’s foot and lower leg, Dziewior stated in a news release. 

Crystal Lake Police officers were in the area directing traffic for the parade, and were alerted to the accident. Crystal Lake Fire Rescue was summoned to the scene and transported the injured student to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, where the juvenile was treated and released. 

This accident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department. No citations or charges have been filed in this incident, at this time
