Smoke Detector Alerts Resident as Fire Breaks Out in Crystal Lake Home

Crews were able to control the house fire within 20 minutes.

An outside light fixture is suspected of causing a house fire Sunday morning.

responded to a reported structure fire just after 3:30 a.m. at a single-family home on the 800 block of Nottingham Lane in .

According to Fire Rescue officials, a resident was awakened by a smoke detector, which enabled them to escape and report the fire. No injuries were reported.

Crystal Lake Fire Rescue were the first on the scene, where they witnessed smoke and flames from the rear of the home. After an aggressive interior attack the fire was under control within 20 minutes.

According to CLFR, the fire appeared to have started in an outside fixture, where it spread up the outside wall, into the eaves and into the attic, where it was stopped by Crystal Lake crews.

The initial estimated damage is $20,000.

The fire appeared to be accidental but is still under investigation, according to CLFR.

Crystal Lake crews were assisted by departments from Algonquin, Cary, East Dundee, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Lakewood, Nunda Rural, McHenry and Wonder Lake.
