Six-Year-Old Boy Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Union

The child was struck on Franklinville Road near Union.

A six-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Franklinville Road near Union.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said shortly before 9:04 p.m. on Saturday, Sept., 8, the young boy was struck by a vehicle in the area of 4601 Franklinville Road, southwest of Woodstock.

After hitting the boy, the vehicle continued northbound on Franklinville Road, and never stopped, witnesses said.

The child was transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The sheriff department did not released the victim's name.

Members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Marengo Police Department, Woodstock Fire Protection District, and McHenry County Conservation Police responded to the scene.

Witnesses described the offending vehicle as a white passenger car or SUV with damage to one of the headlamps. 

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Nygren said.
