Sheriff's Officer Charged with Predatory Sexual Assault

Charges stem from allegations of abusing a minor within his family.

A sergeant and 10-year veteran with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office was charged with criminal sexual assault over the weekend.

Gregory M. Pyle, 36, was charged with 10 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault after allegations were reported to the sheriff's office Jan. 6.

Illinois State Police, handling the investigation, confirmed that the charges stem from allegations of abuse to a minor who is in Pyle's family.

According to the sheriff's office, Pyle was immediately relieved of law enforcement powers and placed on administrative leave.

Within 24 hours, the Illinois State Police investigators and the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office determined probable cause and the state’s attorney’s office obtained criminal charges, according to the sheriff's office.

Pyle surrendered to Illinois State Police investigators late Saturday evening without incident.

This investigation remains ongoing.

Pyle's bond was set at $200,000, and he was given a Jan. 27 court date.

Just thinking. What if laater on it is proven that none of this happened. One of my cases involved a law enforcement officer and it turned out later that his ex set the whole thing up to get back at him. He served one year and nine months before the truth came out. However, if this officer is guilty he needs to be punished severely.
