Caledonia Man Killed in Early Saturday Car Crash Near Harvard

A 30-year-old Caledonia man was killed in a single-car crash at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, northeast of Harvard.

 

The Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash that occurred at about 2:33 a.m. Saturday.

The accident took place at the intersection of O’Brien Road and Nolan Street in unincorporated Alden Township, northeast of Harvard.

Michael G. Doersam, 30, of 2064 Hunter Rd., Caledonia, was pronounced dead at the scene by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

According to a press release issued by McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren, preliminary investigations indicate Doersam was driving a 1997 Buick LeSabre westbound on O’Brien Road when his car left the south side of the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle then struck a single tree on the south side of the intersection.

Front airbags deployed within the vehicle and Doersam was found to have not been wearing his safety belt, according to the Sheriff's department. Toxicology results will be pending.

The traffic crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
