Members of the Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Led Policing Unit conducted a traffic stop on Thursday, Sept. 12, on a 2001 Ford Explorer at Garden Quarter and Hanley Street, McHenry.

During the traffic stop, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was called to conduct a search on the vehicle. Deputies located $1,835 in cash and one pill in the vehicle.

The driver, Alexandra M. Hanners, was arrested for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Her passenger, Amber M. Kumm, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Both suspects admitted to concealing drugs when they were brought to the Sheriff’s Office. McHenry County Corrections Officers conducted separate searches on both subjects and found they were each concealing bags containing narcotics, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies recovered about 3.8 grams of heroin, 1 gram of cannabis, and 2 pills from a bag concealed on one of the women. Another bag recovered from the second woman contained 6.7 grams of crack cocaine, the sheriff's release stated.

Undersheriff Andrew Zinke estimates the street value of the narcotics seized is about $1,200.

The countywide Heroin Education/Enforcement Action Taskforce (HEAT) is working together with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to target heroin related crimes.
