Saturday Crash Blocks Road

Crystal Lake man cited in traffic accident, LITH man injured.

Crystal Lake police responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Virginia Road and Berkshire Drive, June 18, at about 9:16 a.m.

Upon investigation, police discovered that Robert Simonini, 66, of Crystal Lake, was traveling east on Berkshire Drive in a 2007 Nissan Altima, while a 2007 Chevrolet HHR was traveling north on Virginia Road, according to the news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department. Simonini failed to stop for a red traffic light, which resulted in a collision with the Chevrolet driven by Alejandro Carmona, 40, of Lake in the Hills.

Fire rescue staff tended to the passenger of the Chevrolet, Rafael Capetillo, 69, of Lake in the Hills. Capetillo was transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock for injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to the news release.

Simonini was issued a traffic citation for disregarding a red traffic control light and released at the scene. Police crews restricted travel through the intersection for about 30 minutes while crews investigated the scene and removed damaged vehicles and debris.
