Federal authorities on Tuesday leveled child pornography charges against McHenry County Sheriff's deputy Gregory M. Pyle, who was accused earlier this year of sexually assaulting a young child.
Pyle, 36, formerly of Crystal Lake, was charged Tuesday while appearing in federal court in Rockford with aggravated sexual abuse of a child and producing child pornography by the sexual exploitation of a child, according to the Daily Herald.
Pyle was charged in January with 10 counts of sexually assaulting a child. In leveling the new charges, authorities said Pyle took a boy, younger than 13 at the time, on a trip to Wisconsin in 2008, the Daily Herald stated. Pyle transported the boy across the state line to produce child pornography which he allegedly then shared over the Internet, the story said.
Pyle was a 10-year veteran of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, and once the department's lead investigator for child pornography. Pyle is now being held in jail without bond pending a detention hearing on Friday, the story said.
