Prison Inmate Charged With Indecent Solicitation of a Child

Police uncovered evidence alleging an Oswego man had sexually explicit conversations with a 13-year-old girl

have charged a 22-year-old Oswego man with five counts of indecent solicitation of a child Feb. 28.

Mark S. Seranella is currently serving four years for involuntary manslaughter at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

According to Deputy Chief Eugene Lowery, police were continuing the investigation of Seranella's manslaughter conviction Jan. 12 when alleged recordings of telephone conversations in Oct., 2010, between Seranella and a 13-year-old girl surfaced. The calls allegedly took place while Seranella was being held at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility during his court hearings.

“Those conversations were extremely sexually explicit and described sex acts that had occurred prior to be arrested by our department and planning future sex acts upon his release,” Lowery said.

Another law enforcement agency is investigating the alleged sexual relationship between the girl and Seranella prior to his arrest by Crystal Lake Police in May, 2010.

Seranella was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Jan. 12 for drug-induced homicide for supplying heroin to Crystal Lake resident Ryan A. Maxwell, who subsequently died Jan. 26, 2007, from an overdose. According to police, Seranella provided heroin to Maxwell in trade for a guitar.

The case was open until late 2008 when additional information surfaced and police arrested Seranella on May 7, 2010. The initial charges at the time were for drug-induced homicide. Seranella pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter, Lowery said, and was sentenced to four years prison.

Lowery said the acts alleged in the telephone conversations have been reported to the Department of Children and Family Services.

Seranella has an April 25 court date at the McHenry County Courthouse in Woodstock.
