Prairie Grove Officer Cited After Crash

McHenry County Sheriff's Office investigating Feb. 4 accident.

The is investigating a personal injury crash that occurred just before 5 pm on Feb. 4 and resulted in a Prairie Grove Police Officer being cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

According to a statement released by the sheriff's office, members of the Crystal Lake Fire Department, Prairie Grove Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff's Department responded to a call from a two-car accident at the intersection of Rte. 176 and Bay View Beach Rd. in Prairie Grove with injuries involving a Prairie Grove Police Officer.

According to the statement, evidence at the scene indicated that the Prairie Grove officer was traveling westbound on Rte. 176 when the officer was distracted by something inside the vehicle and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban from behind.

The driver and passenger of the Suburban were uninjured. The Prairie Grove officer was transported to Northern Illinois Medical Center for minor injuries.
