Snow Closes Portions of Route 31 Wednesday

Police urge motorists to drive with caution Wednesday.

Roads were in rough condition through Crystal Lake and Algonquin — as well as rural portions of McHenry County and throughout the Chicago suburbs — Wednesday morning, according to the Northwest Herald and IDOT.

Police closed Route 31 between Ames Road and Ray Street in Crystal Lake this morning, according to an advisory message from the police department. In Algonquin, northbound Route 31 between Algonquin Road to Cary Road was also closed this morning due to poor conditions, according to the Northwest Herald.

Both portions of Route 31 have since been re-opened. The Crystal Lake Police Department is advising drivers to use caution while traveling on roadway Wednesday.

Roadways throughout McHenry County and the Chicago suburbs were snow- or ice-covered as of 10:17 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Illinois Department of Transportation road conditions map. View the map above for updates.
