Police Manhunt by Foot, Helicopter in North Barrington, Lake Zurich

Jermaine L. Pugh, 26, of Chicago, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with multiple offenses after leading police on a chase through North Barrington and Lake Zurich.

A 26-year-old Chicago man who led police on a foot and helicopter pursuit through Lake Zurich and North Barrington on Friday afternoon in now in the custody of Lake Zurich Police. 

Jermaine L. Pugh, of 8137 South Evans St., Chicago, has been charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding; driving while license revoked; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver; and leaving the scene of a car accident involving property damage.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Saturday.

Pugh had been listed as the wanted suspect in an ISPERN dispatch initiated by the Island Lake Police Department for domestic battery. 

Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, he fled the area in a 2007 silver Nissan Maxima but was confronted by a Lake Zurich police officer at a gas station at Route 12 and Miller Road, according to police.

Pugh sped off down southbound Route 12 and was pursued by the officer, who terminated the pursuit after Pugh drove through the median due to the high volume of traffic. 

Pugh was then involved in a property damage crash on Route 12 at Honey Lake Road then crashed his vehicle at Beech Street and fled on foot. He was pursued by police officers from Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods, Island Lake and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

As a result of the manhunt, North Barrington Elementary was placed on lockdown. Though school was not in session Friday, staff members were in the building.

Pugh was apprehended on Route 59 at Miller Road in North Barrington, with the assistance of the Lake County Air-One helicopter.
