Police Issue 39 Citations, Arrest Three During Seatbelt Campaign

Super Bowl campaign results in a number of citations, arrests

The issues over 30 citations and made three arrests during a Safety Belt Zone Enforcement campaign conducted on Feb. 6. This event was part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the annual Super Bowl event.

During the 32 hours of additional patrol time, both day and night, the Crystal Lake Police Department issued a total of 39 traffic citations. Twenty-six of the citations issued were for failure to wear safety belt and 13 citations issued were for operation of uninsured motor vehicles, improper lane usage, disregarding traffic control devices, motor vehicle equipment violations, driver’s license violations and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Christopher J. Yokas, 41, of 824 S. Elm Street, Algonquin, was arrested for DUI.

Alexander J. Gregory, 19, of 6326 W. Giddings, Chicago, and Jeffrey Sluyk, 18, of 402 E. Kennsington Road, Mt. Prospect, were arrested for unlawful possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

The enforcement campaign was funded in part by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation and is administered by IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety.
