Police Holiday Campaign Results in Arrests, Citations

St. Patrick's holiday safety campaign sees 36 cars getting pulled over.

Police recently conducted two separate campaigns to increase safety on the roadways, both resulting in a number of citations and arrests.

The participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to remove impaired drivers off roads and to encourage additional motorists to buckle up during late-night hours.

During this period, the police participated in two separate enforcement campaigns to increase safety.

A nighttime DUI and safety belt enforcement campaign March 14 resulted in 12 vehicles being stopped with a total of 12 citations issued which included:

  • 4 citations for speeding
  • 1 citation for operation uninsured motor vehicle
  • 3 citations for equipment violations
  • 1 citation for disregard traffic control device
  • 3 citations for failure to stop at stop sign

A nighttime DUI and safety belt enforcement campaign March 17 resulted in 24 vehicles being stopped with a total of 33 citations issued which included:

  • 3 citations for uninsured motor vehicle
  • 3 citations for seatbelt violations
  • 4 citations for speeding
  • 3 citations for disregard traffic control device
  • 4 citations for failure to stop at stop sign
  • 10 citations for equipment violations
  • 1 citation for failure to signal lane change
  • 1 citations for open liquor in a motor vehicle
  • 2 citations for driving under the influence of alcohol
  • 2 citations for BAC over .08

According to police, two adult males were each arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and one adult male was arrested for driving while license suspended.

During the entire Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, the Crystal Lake Police Department stopped a total of 36 vehicles. Three persons were arrested and a total of 45 citations were issued.

The recent law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled over” and “Click it or Ticket” campaigns.
