Police Cite The General Store for Selling Alcohol to Minor in Undercover Crackdown

Police sent undercover officers and minors into 21 Crystal Lake establishments to see whether they were in compliance with laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors.

The following release was submitted by Crystal Lake Police:

On the evening of Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 Crystal Lake Police conducted a series of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) checks on establishments that are licensed to sell packaged alcoholic beverages within the City limits. During this detail, undercover officers and minors under twenty-one years of age visited a total of twenty-one (21) retail establishments which are licensed to sell packaged alcoholic beverages, with a goal of finding them all to be in compliance, and not sell alcoholic beverages to minors.

All but one of the selected businesses refused to allow underage persons to purchase packaged alcoholic beverages.

The lone business found in violation during this campaign was The General Store, located at 1309 North Avenue, Crystal Lake. The clerk at this business was cited with an adjudication citation for a violation of a City ordinance which prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages to persons under twenty-one.
