No Cash for Pot, Teens Make Their Own Money

Men charged with forgery after allegedly copying a $20 bill.

Two Crystal Lake 18-year-olds were arrested Wednesday after allegedly creating more than $700 and using it to buy cannabis.

Nicholas A. Cheney, 18, of 852 Boxwood Drive in Crystal Lake; and Ryan Young, 18, of 832 Boxwood Drive in Crystal Lake were charged with forgery (a Class 3 felony) after a tip received by Crime Stoppers of McHenry County led investigators from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office to look into Cheney and Young.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, Cheney and Young copied the same $20 bill on a home scanner to produce over $700, which they traded for cannabis.

When Cheney was confronted by Sheriff's Office Investigators, Cheney had cannabis on him.

Cheney was also charged with unlawful possession of cannabis.

Bond was set at $10,000 for both and both were given a May 10 court date.
