McHenry Woman Pleads Guilty to Participating in Secret Shopper Scheme

McHenry woman allegedly used Internet advertisements to lure victims to the scam.

 

A McHenry woman pleaded guilty Friday to participating in a 'secret shopper' scheme, the Northwest Herald is reporting.

Gloria Denise Ford, 45, appeared in U.S. Federal Court in Rockford to face charges of mail fraud in connection with the 'work-at-home' scam she helped coordinate, the Northwest Herald article states.

According to the NWH story, Ford admitted during the Friday court appearance that she participated in the secret shopper scheme between January and November 2011. As part of the scam, people applied to the fake Internet ads and the victims thought they were being hired as secret shoppers.

Ford allegedly mailed over $1 million in counterfeit money orders to the job applicant victims- who lived in all parts of the country, the story states. In return, Ford received at least $12,000 in payments for her role, the NWH article states.

Ford is scheduled to return to court Oct. 9 for sentencing.
