ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Three were injured in a crash Saturday morning near Route 176 and Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

The accident occurred when a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer was leaving a private drive on the north side of Route 176 at 10:10 a.m. A 1996 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by Donald Mecko, 73, of Palatine, and traveling west on Route 176 collided with the driver's side of the Blazer, according to a Crystal Lake Police Department press release.

The Blazer then rolled on its passenger side coming to rest in the center of the roadway. The driver of the Blazer, Zandra Iandola, 20, and passenger, Kayla Brehmer, 23, needed to be extricated from the vehicle, according to the news release.

They were transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock with injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening. Mecko was also transported to Centegra.

Traffic was diverted from the immediate area of the crash on Illinois Route 176 about 100 feet west of US Route 14 for approximately two hours as crews tended to and transported the injured subjects, investigated the crash, interviewed witnesses and cleared the roadway of the damaged vehicles and debris.

This incident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
