McHenry County Sheriff Officers Holding Fundraisers for Fellow Officer Battling Cancer

Corrections Officer Jessie Fruehe, a single mother of two small children, is battling appendix cancer.

Officers from the McHenry County Sheriff's Department in Woodstock have planned several fundraising events for the month of July to help their fellow officer battling appendix cancer.

Officer Jessie Fruehe, who has two small children, was diagnosed with the disease a few months ago. Since that time, Fruehe has endured three invasive surgeries. She now faces chemotherapy treatment, which is estimated to last a minimum of at least six months, according to Officer Daniel Hulina, one of Fruehe's partners.

"A group of officers from our department have put together numerous events this month to try to raise $25,000 for Jessie and her children," Hulina said in an e-mail to Patch.

It is uncertain at this time when, or if, Fruehe will be able to return to her job as a corrections officer at the McHenry County Sheriff's Department.
