McHenry Co. Police Shoot Woman During Standoff Sunday

A 53-year-old woman was shot Sunday evening during a standoff with McHenry County Sheriff's Office deputies, police said Monday.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7400 block of Boston Road in unincorporated Wonder Lake at 5 p.m. for a report of a suicidal subject, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release.

When deputies arrived, Elizabeth N. Kloss, 53, was armed with a handgun. Police said she made several suicidal statements and continued to do so while visibly armed with the handgun inside of the residence, according to the news release.

Deputies remained outside and communicated with her in an attempt to get her to surrender so she could be transported for a mental health evaluation, according to the news release.

Kloss walked out the front door armed with a .223 assault rifled, walked toward deputies and pointed the rifle at police who then shot Kloss, striking her one time in the neck, according to the news release.

Kloss was transported to Condell Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and was in the intensive care unit Monday.
