Marengo-Area Man Arrested After Pointing Gun at Sheriff's Police

Edward P. Bolen, 49, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon possession without a FOID card.

When members of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division arrived Saturday at Edward P. Bolen's home in unincorporated Marengo Township, they did not receive a warm welcome.

Sheriff Keith Nygren said officers went to Bolen's house at 2905 Northwest Road, in unincorporated Marengo Township, at 12:18 p.m. to serve him domestic battery warrant.

Deputies saw Bolen, 49, inside the house and made contact with him and his roommate. Upon entering the residence, Bolen allegedly pointed a handgun at the officers, Nygren said in a press release.

Sheriff’s deputies fired their weapons at Bolen; however, he was not struck. He retreated to a room in the basement and barricaded himself.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s SWAT team responded to the scene. The SWAT team entered the room, and Bolen allegedly brandished a knife at team members. Bolen was incapacitated after he was struck twice with bean bag rounds and taken into custody, Nygren said in the release.

Marengo Township Fire Protection District responded and provided medical attention to Bolen. Bolen was treated at Woodstock Memorial Hospital and released into Sheriff’s Office custody.

No Sheriff’s deputies were injured during this incident. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office requested the Illinois State Police for assistance in this officer-involved shooting.

Further investigation regarding this incident is being conducted by the Illinois State Police.

Bolin was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful use of weapon/ possession of firearm without a FOID and possession of ammunition without a FOID.

Not a fact right. He was in the basement cleaning the gun had valid Foid. Never pointed or threatened anyone. The warrant was issued 1/29 at 2:30 pm two hours after entry. Not a shread of evidence on battery on daughter who has lied to police 3 times, Dcsf her own mom said she makes things up.
