A 42-year-old Crystal Lake man is listed in critical condition following the Monday evening collision.

UPDATE:  3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17

Crystal Lake Police have released the name of the pedestrian hit by an ice cream truck Monday evening.

Jose Mundo-Gonzalez, 42, of Crystal Lake, was attempting to walk across Route 14, just east of Linn Street, at about 7:55 p.m.

Mundo-Gonzalez was walking from the south side of Route 14, near Cardinal Liquor & Wines, and began crossing the highway in an area where no crosswalk exists, said Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior.

The man was hit by an ice cream truck traveling eastbound on Route 14 in the inside lane. The driver of the truck is a 28-year-old woman from Wonder Lake, police said.

Mundo-Gonzalez was immediately transported to Centegra Hospital in McHenry for what responders believed where "life-threatening injuries."

"From there, he was later transported by Flight for Life helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, where he is listed in critical, but stable condition," Dziewior stated in a news release.

The collision blocked traffic on Route 14 for about two hours Monday night while investigators combed the scene, and crews cleaned up debris. So far, no charges have been filed, Dziewior said.

The Crystal Lake Police Department continues to investigate the accident.
