Man Dead, Brother in Critical Condition Following Huntley Shooting

A fight that broke out between the two brothers Monday evening ended with one dead, according to media reports.

A 47-year-old man is dead and his brother, 50, is in critical condition following a shooting Monday evening in Huntley, according to the Daily Herald.

A fight between the two brothers broke out around 5 p.m. when Mark R. Grundei shot his younger brother, Robert, in the head and shoulder in the 11000 block of Morning Glory Lane, according to the article.

The fight broke out as the family was mourning the death of Brian Grundei, who died after drowning in a Deerfield retention pond on May 16, and Robert Grundei, of Coral Springs, Flor., was in town to attend the funeral when he was shot and killed, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The men's 81-year-old mother suffered an eye injury from a graze wound, according to the article.

The youngest of the brothers, Brian Grundei, 45, of Deerfield was found in a pond in a Deerfield subdivision and the  cause of his death was drowning, but there has not yet been a ruling on whether it was an accident or suicide, according to a May 16 Deerfield Patch article.
