Mailman from Crystal Lake Injured in Traffic Accident on Route 59

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District paramedics transported Stephen Bimbi, 44, of Crystal Lake, to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 20, 10:20 A.M.: The mailman involved in a traffic accident on Thursday north of Barrington is a Crystal Lake resident, according to police.

Lake County Sheriff's Police said Stephen Bimbi, 44, of the 1700 Block of Kennsington Lane in Crystal Lake, was the man who suffered serious injuries and to be extricated from his mail truck as a result of the crash that occurred at about 10:14 a.m. just south of Route 22. 

The accident occurred as Bimbi was driving northbound on Route 59 and he began stopping for a car turning west onto Scott Road. Bimbi lost control of the truck then went into a ditch, striking a tree on the driver’s side, according to reports.

Firefighters extricated Bimbi from the wreckage and he was transported to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge with major injuries. 

The truck Bimbi was driving was released to the Barrington postmaster.

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District transported one person to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge following an accident on Route 59, authorities said.

The single-car accident on Route 59 and Scott Road, a mile south of Route 22, involved a mail truck that went off the road and hit a tree, said Assistant Deputy Chief Christian Toussaint, of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD).

The driver was transported with serious injuries to Lutheran General, a Level 1 trauma center, Toussaint said.

No further details about the driver’s condition were released.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 10:14 a.m. and the accident caused traffic delays.
