Sheriff: Island Lake Man Exchanged Sexually Explicit Photos with Juvenile on Internet

Douglas J. Carlson, 43, was arrested Wednesday and charged with possessing harmful material and intimidation, McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said.

A three-month-long investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of a 43-year-old Island Lake man.

Douglas J. Carlson, 4413 Beech St. Apt. #108, was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 14, and charged with one count of possessing harmful material (a Class 4 Felony) and one count intimidation (a Class 3 Felony), Sheriff Keith Nygren said in a press release.

In August, detectives began investigating an incident where a juvenile had been contacted by an unknown individual via a social networking site.

Carlson had contacted the juvenile numerous times and sent explicit photographs to the juvenile on the internet, dectectives learned during the investigation, Nygren said.

Carlson also was able to obtain explicit photographs from the juvenile.

According to sheriff police, Carlson used the explicit photos to threaten the juvenile.  Carlson said he would show the photographs to the juvenile’s friends if the juvenile didn’t continue to send him photographs, Nygren said.

Sheriff’s detectives on Nov. 14 obtained a warrant to arrest Carlson. The Island Lake resident was then taken into custody without incident. Bond was set at $30,000. Carlson is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 28.

The investigation is continuing and further charges are pending, Nygren said.

To report illegal internet activity, residents should call their local police department, or the Sheriff’s Office at 815-338-2144.
