Sun City Man Convicted in Brutal Beating, Murder of Girlfriend

Robert Signorile, of Huntley, was found guilty Friday of murdering his girlfriend at their Sun City home.

Following three days of testimony, a McHenry County jury took less than 90 minutes on Friday to find Robert Signorile guilty of the murder of his girlfriend, Michelle Mathieu, after he beat her, leaving bruises all over her body, fracturing her spine and ribs and causing severe head trauma, according to the Northwest Herald.

Medical crews found Mathieu unconscious in the couple's bedroom in their home in Sun City, and she died six days later at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, according to the article. The Northwest Herald reports prosecutors referred to Signorile, who will turn 45 on Saturday, as a "belligerent alcoholic."

Witnesses testified during the trial Signorile had beaten Mathieu, 52, in the past, according to the Daily Herald. The defense argued Mathieu, an alcoholic who had a history of seizures, died as the results of a seizure and a fall, according to the article.

A sentencing hearing for Signorile is set for Jan. 24, according to the Chicago Tribune. He faces between 20 to 60 years in prison, according to the article.
