Hospitalized Wauconda Drug Store Robbery Suspect Charged

Police charge Island Lake resident with two robberies at Wauconda Pharmacy.

A man who was shot while allegedly robbing the Wauconda Pharmacy on Feb. 14 has now been charged with four felony counts for that offense as well as for a robbery of the pharmacy in December.

Guy Michael Conti, 31, of 27606 N. Hickory St., Island Lake, was served a warrant on Feb. 25, at Condell Hospital where he is still recovering from the gunshot wound, said Wauconda Chief Doug Larsson.

Larsson said police had suspicions that Conti was responsible for a Dec. 10 robbery at the pharmacy.

“He had the same MO. He had the same kind of disguise and took that same type of drugs,” Larsson said.

Conti allegedly wore a ski masks during both robberies. In the December robbery, he told the clerk he was armed. Both times he took oxycontin and hydrocodone.

Conti is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony; and two counts of robbery, a Class 2 felony. Bond was set at $500,000.

According to a press release from the Wauconda Police Department, police responded to a 9-1-1 of a an armed robbery in progress at the Wauconda Pharmacy, Feb. 14.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the alleged offender lying near the front entrance with a gunshot wound in his side, according to police reports.
The police investigation determined that the offender, believed to be Guy Michael Conti, forced his way into the pharmacist’s work area and demanded a large quantity of drugs.

He was wearing a ski mask and armed with a large knife. After surrendering the drugs, the pharmacist and a technician confronted the offender and overpowered him. The pharmacist ordered him to stop and surrender.

However, the offender broke free and made threatening advances to the pharmacist and technician. At that time, the pharmacist fired once and struck the offender, according to Wauconda Police. The pharmacist owned the weapon legally and is a registered gun owner.

Several employees and two customers were in the store at the time, but none were hurt. The offender was taken to Condell Hospital with life threatening injuries and underwent surgery.

Conti, was arrested in Fayetteville, Arkansas in October for allegedly robbing a pharmacy twice in one week, and taking oxycontin, according to Fayetteville police. He was out on bond when he moved to the Island Lake area.
