Burglary Suspect Sought By Crystal Lake Police

Police said suspect fled on foot when he realized owner of house on Kelly Lane was still home.

Crystal Lake Police report an attempted burglary in the 400 block of Kelly Lane was thwarted when the offender realized the owner of the house was still home.

Police said at about 11:15 a.m. Monday, June 4, they responded to the home for a report of a burglary in progress. An occupant in the Kelly Lane house saw the unknown man inside the house.

Upon realizing he was not alone, the intruder exited the house and fled on foot, according to a press release issued by Crystal Lake Police Commander Dan Dziewior.

Officers searched area surrounding the home, but were not able to locate the suspect, Dziewior said in the release. Kelly Lane is located on the east side of Crystal Lake, northwest of the Routes 176 and 31 intersection.

The resident was unharmed in the incident, and it is believed the suspect was not able to remove anything from the house since he was interrupted, police said.

The resident described the intruder as a white man, approximately 20 to 25 years old, with light brown hair and standing between 5-foot-six to five-foot-ten inches tall.

Working with witnesses, police were able to release a composite of the suspect.

The Crystal Lake Police remind residents to report any suspicious activity observed in their neighborhoods. Police can be contacted 24 hours per day through the department’s non-emergency telephone number at 815-356-3620, or in an emergency by dialing 911.

Anyone with a cellular phone can send an anonymous tip to Crystal Lake Police by texting the word CLPDTIP along with the tip information to 847411 (tip 411). Anonymous tips can be submitted through a citizen observer website, police said.
