Fire/Rescue Open House Brings Out Families

Open house offered many activities and photo opportunities.

Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue's open house attracted a crowd during Saturday's open house.

The open house included hands-on and educational activities for families, including: a station tour, a Safety House- practicing exiting a house during a fire, rescue demonstrations, Flight for Life Helicopter, child fire hose drills, dressing as a fireman, firefighter skills course designed for kids, fire extinguisher practice and a live burn.

Avery Kuligowski, 4, of Crystal Lake had a favorite activity at last year's Open House—doctoring the sick Teddy bear.

But the event wasn't enough to convert every potential firefighter. Although the young Michael Kronke of Crystal Lake enjoyed the activities, he said he still wants to be an "ice cream man" when he grows up.

Keeping fire safety the feature of the event, the department offered a lot of brochures for people to take home. The brochures included: a 2011 CPR class schedule, fire safety for babies and toddlers, fall poison prevention safety tips, an emergency preparedness guide and more.
