Eight-year-old Bicyclist Dies After Crash

Crystal Lake girl hit by car succumbs to injuries at hospital.

An 8-year-old Crystal Lake girl who was hit by a car this week, died Friday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

The girl, identified as Rachel Miller by the Tribune, was hit by a car at about 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, in the area of North and Millard streets.

According to the police report,  a 2004 Acura TL, operated by Bradley A. Harding, 39, of Lakewood had been traveling eastbound on North Avenue in the area of Millard Avenue when a bicycle, operated by an 8-year-old female, attempted to cross North Avenue while traveling southbound across the roadway. The bicyclist collided with the vehicle within the eastbound lane, resulting in the bicycle impacting the driver side front quarter panel.

Rachel Miller was flown form the scene by helicopter to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Eugene Lowery told the Tribune that the police do not expect to issue any citations.
