Dryer Starts Fire in Crystal Lake Home

Elmwood Avenue was closed for 45 minutes Saturday night due to fire.

A Crystal Lake dryer fire caused an estimated $1000 in damage, Saturday night.

The Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department responded to a call of a structure fire at 321 Elmwood Ave., 9:19 p.m., June 19. When crews arrived, there was smoke coming from the single-story home. Residents had already evacuated the home and the fire was extinguished by the first engine to arrive on the scene, according to a news release from Battalion Chief William Whyte.

The fire was contained to the dryer. It was undetermined how the fire started in the dryer. According to the news release there was no structural damage to the home and no injuries.

Elmwood Avenue was closed for 45 minutes during fire operations.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was assisted by the Crystal Lake Police and the Algonquin Lake in The Hills Fire Protection District with an Auto Aid Engine to the scene.
