CL Police Issue 73 Citations in St. Patrick's Day Crackdown

Crystal Lake Police stopped 68 motorists and issued 73 citations during a St. Patrick's Day crackdown aimed at saving lives.

The police department participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the holiday called “Drive to Survive."

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort from March 14-17, with the goal of saving lives by encouraging motorists to refrain from drinking and driving, and to buckle up during late-night hours, Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior said.

During this period, the Crystal Lake Police participated in three separate enforcement campaigns to increase safety on our community’s roadways.

Police Issued the Following as a Result of the Crackdown:

Stopped 68 motorists for traffic violations.

Issued a total of 73 traffic citations, which included:

• 32 safety belt citations
• 10 citations for improper lane usage
• 8 citations for operation uninsured motor vehicle
• 7 citations for unlawful use of an electronic communications device
• 6 citations for equipment violations
• 5 citations for speeding
• 2 red light violation citations
• 2 disregard stop sign citations
• 1 citations for an alcohol violation

In addition, 1 person was arrested for the following offense:

• 1 adult for DUI alcohol

The law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled over” and “Click it or Ticket” campaigns, Dwiezior stated in a release.
