Crystal Lake Police Blotter: Retail Theft, Battery, Christmas Decorations Damaged

Crystal Lake Police reports from Nov. 27 to Dec. 5, 2012.

Domestic Battery

Karen J. Hjorth, 52, 1743 Kings Gate Ln., Crystal Lake, was arrested Nov. 28, and charged with one count domestic battery/ bodily harm, one count domestic battery/ physical contact, and one count resisting/ obstructing an officer.

Police said Hjorth allegedly battered her 65-year-old husband causing minor injuries. Hjorth was transported to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Jail, where she was awaiting bond and a court date.

Assault with Deadly Weapon

Adan Castellanos, 49, homeless, Crystal Lake, was arrested Nov. 27, on a Kane County warrant for domestic battery and driving under the influence. Castellanos was also charged with one count aggravated assault with deadly weapon, one count criminal trespass to a home, one count obstructing identification, and one count driving on a suspended drivers license.

Police said Castellanos allegedly threatened a former roommate with a gun at a home located in the 300 block of Dartmoor Drive. Castellanos reportedly once lived at the home and went back to confront the current residents, police said. Castellanos denied allegations he had a gun, and no gun was found by arresting officers. He was transported to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, where his bond was set at $15,500. Castellanos was scheduled to appear in court Dec. 18.

Battery

Clinton K. Keller, 24, 742 Grandview Dr., Crystal Lake, was arrested Dec. 3, and charged with battery/ causing bodily harm. Police said Keller was upset over loud music playing in his brother's room, and allegedly punched his brother's 18-year-old friend in the face causing minor injuries. Keller was transported to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, where his bond was set at $150. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 8.

Trespassing

Denise K. Palmer, 47, 3115 W. Miller Dr., McHenry, was arrested Dec. 5, and charged with criminal trespass to land and resisting/ obstructing a peace officer.
Police said Palmer was upset with a resident living in the 500 block of Lake Street and refused to the leave the property when asked by the homeowner and police. Palmer posted 10 percent of a $1,500 bond and was released. She is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 22.

Retail Theft

Robert W. Nass, 20, 107 Mohawk, North Barrington, was arrested Dec. 5, and charged with two counts of retail theft. Nass allegedly stole shirts on De. 4, and then took a watch on Dec. 5, from 5420 Route 14, police said. The items were valued at less than $100. Nass posted 10 percent of a $1,500 bond and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 8.

Underage Drinking/ Trespassing

Carlos Morales, 20, 122 West Woodstock St. 2F, Crystal Lake, was arrested Nov. 22, and charged with criminal trespass to residence and illegal possession/ consumption of alcohol by a minor. Morales allegedly trespassed in a residence located in the 100 block of West Woodstock Street. Morales posted 10 percent of $1,500, and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 8.

Juvenile Arrests

Two Boys Steal iPod from Boy Walking Home

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Nov. 28, and charged with robbery, aggravated battery and mob action. Police said the boy used force to steal an iPod from a 12-year-old boy walking home from a friend's house in the area of Union Street and Second Court.

Joined by an accomplice, the 16-year-old reached into the victim's pocket and stole the iPod. The 12-year-old ran home to his parents and was not hurt. The investigation is pending while police work to identify the accomplice. The 16-year-old was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center.

Christmas Decoration Damaged

Three teenagers were arrested Nov. 28, and charged with criminal damage to property. Police said two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old were caught damaging Christmas decorations in the areas of Dogwood, Magnolia, Rolling Hills and Woodscreek drives.

Theft, Possession of Marijuana

A 13-year-old boy was arrested Nov. 28, and charged with theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A second 13-year-old boy also was arrested and charged with theft. Police said one of the boys stole a cellular phone from a victim at Bernotas Middle School, 170 N. Oak St., and gave it to the other boy to sell online.

A 17-year-old employee
at 6000 Route 14, was arrested Nov. 19, and charged with theft. The teen stole a gift card, police said.

A 16-year-old junvenile
was arrested Nov. 18, and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
