Crystal Lake Man and Woman Charged with Heroin Possession

Derrick J. Valicenti, 30, and Josephine K. Baloun, 18, both of Crystal Lake, face multiple drug-related offenses following a parolee home search on Saturday.

A Crystal Lake man already on parole and a Crystal Lake woman were arrested Saturday night during a home-check by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and Illinois Department of Corrections.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday issued a news release regarding the weekend arrests.

Derrick J. Valicenti, 30, of 369 E. Crystal Lake Ave., was arrested Nov. 16, and charged with:

  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, Class 4 felony
  • Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, 2 counts, Class A misdemeanors
  • Unlawful possession of hypodermic needle, Class A misdemeanor
Sheriff's deputies along with members of the IDC's Parole Division conducted a parolee home visit at 7:25 p.m. Nov. 16, in unincorporated Crystal Lake. While checking the home, deputies discovered drug paraphernalia, the release states. 

Valicenti, the parolee, arrived home accompanied by Josephine K. Baloun during the home visit. A small bag containing heroin and other paraphernalia were located, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

Baloun, 18, of 315 Ridge Ave., Crystal Lake, also was arrested and charged with the same offenses as Valicenti, according to the Sheriff. 

Both Valicenti and Baloun were taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Corrections Facility in Woodstock. Bond for Valicenti was set at $15,000, and Baloun's bond was set at $10,000.

They each are scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.
