Craigslist Drug Bust Results in Arrest of 2 Men in Fox Lake

Thomas D. Brown, 20, of Lake Villa, and Daniel D. Swan, 22, of Fox Lake, face felony drug charges and are accused of posting a Craigslist ad selling hydrocodone pills.

Two men are facing felony drug charges in connection with an ad that was posted on Craigslist selling 120 hydrocodone pills for $360.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit received a tip from McHenry Police Department about the advertisement, according to a sheriff's office press release.

Detectives met Thomas A. Brown, 20, of the 200 Block of N. Milwaukee Ave. in Lake Villa, and Daniel D. Swan, 22, of the 200 Block of E. Grand Ave., in Fox Lake, at the Walgreens, 61 N. Route 12, in Fox Lake to purchase the pills.

Brown and Swan were surrounded. Brown rammed the red 1999 Nissan minivan he was driving into an unmarked squad car in an attempt to evade arrest. The Nissan was stopped a short time later and Brown resisted arrest.

Brown was charged with criminal damage to government supported property (Class 3 Felony); unlawful possession of lookalike substance (Class C Misdemeanor); unlawful possession of lookalike substance with intent to deliver (Class 3 Felony); unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Class 4 Felony); resisting a peace officer (Class A Misdemeanor); possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor); driving while license suspended (Class A Misdemeanor); aggravated reckless driving (Class 4 Felony); loud muffler; operating an uninsured motor vehicle; and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. 

Brown’s jail bond was set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 7.

Swan was charged with unlawful possession of lookalike substance (Class C Misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of lookalike substance with intent to deliver (Class 3 Felony).

Swan’s jail bond was set at $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 29.
