Couple on Motorcycle Hit Deer on Rakow

Labor Day evening accident slowed traffic on Rakow Road and necessitated the temporary closure of the northbound lane.

A 40-year-old Wauconda man and his 34-year-old passenger walked away with minimal injuries Monday night after their motorcycle struck a deer on Rakow Road.

The driver and his passenger, a Vernon Hills woman, were riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle at about 8:24 p.m. on a section of Rakow Road between McHenry Avenue and Pyott Road, which is located on the border of Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills.

The deer ran across the road, collided with the motorcycle and ran off, LITH Police Sgt. Terri Vollmer said.

"The man and woman suffered superficial injuries," Vollmer said. "They were transported to a local hospital, treated and released. Their injuries were not life threatening."

The collission delayed traffic along Rakow Monday night as emergency crews worked to assist the couple and clear the debris. The northbound lane of the road was completely closed for a short period of time, Vollmer said.
