'Click It' Campaign Nets 37 Citations

Crystal Lake Police joined the seat belt campaign to reduce roadway fatalities.

A campaign to attempt to reduce roadway fatalities resulted in a number of citations, mostly seat belt violations.

The joined "Click It or Ticket 2011"  during the week of Memorial Day, May 20 through May 30, as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program.

According to police, during the 36 hours of additional patrol time, both day and night, police issued a total of 37 traffic citations—20 citations issued were for failure to wear safety belt violations; 16 citations issued for operation of uninsured motor vehicles, speeding, disregarding traffic control devices, improper turns and motor vehicle equipment violations; and one citation issued for a graduated driver’s license violation.

The enforcement campaign was funded in part by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation and is administered by IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety.
