Central Student Faces Charge in Student Stabbing

Witnesses identified alleged offender to police.

A 16-year-old Central High School student is scheduled to appear in McHenry County Courthouse March 7 after being charged with one count of felony aggravated battery for allegedly stabbing a fellow student on March 3.

According to a , the male student allegedly stabbed another 16-year-old male student with a pair of metal scissors while in class at Central High School at approximately 2:20 p.m. The victim was treated by the school nurse for a small puncture wound on his back. The injury did not require him to be transported to a medical facility at that time and he was released to a parent.

After treating the student, the school nurse reported it to school officials.

“The incident didn’t happen until the end of the day,” said District 155 Communications Director, Jeff Puma. “So it was reported at the end of the day. And because it was at the end of the day, most of the investigation then took place Friday morning.”

Puma declined to comment about whether or not any disciplinary action against the alleged offender was taken by the school district.

Deputy Police Chief Eugene Lowery said the victim was initially reluctant to talk about the incident.

Lowery said that the incident took place in the rear area of the classroom.

“The teacher was in the front area, but several students witnessed it,” he said.

During the police investigation, witnesses identified the alleged offender and corroborated the victim's story.

On March 4 police went to the home of the suspect who, upon seeing police at his home, led them on a foot pursuit for “several minutes,” Lowery said. There was no struggle when police caught up with him and he was taken into custody without incident.

The juvenile was arrested and detained at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center in St. Charles.

Due to the ongoing investigation and because this is a juvenile matter, Lowery did not comment on a possible motive for the alleged stabbing.
