Cary Woman Charged with DUI and Endangering Life of Child

Andrea M. Kief, 29, of Cary, was arrested Monday, Oct. 21, and charged with DUI and drug-related offenses following a one-car crash in rural Woodstock.

A Cary woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana and endangering the life of a child following a one-car accident in rural Woodstock on Monday.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 21, to the site of the crash in the 4600 block of Dean Street in unincorporated Woodstock (west of Crystal Lake).

Sheriff’s deputies arriving on the scene met with the driver, Andrea M. Kief, 29, 7392 Cove Dr., Cary. She had a small boy in the car, as well, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

Investigators said Kief's car, a black 2008 Mazda, was traveling southbound on Dean Street, north of Route 176 when it crossed the northbound lane of traffic and entered the ditch on the east side of the roadway.

The Mazda struck a culvert, causing it to overturn and hit a tree, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. 

The young boy was transported as a precautionary measure to Centegra Hospital Woodstock by Woodstock Fire Protection District and was later released. Kief did not seek medical attention, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

Kief was arrested for DUI and other charges related to the traffic crash. She was transported to McHenry County Correctional Facility and left in their custody.

In all, Kief was charged with the following offenses:

  • Failure to Reduce Speed
  • Endangering the Life of a Child
  • DUI
  • Possession of Cannabis, 2.5-10 Grams
  • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Bond for Kief was set at $4,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20.
