Cary Teen Faces Multiple Charges in Fatal Crash

19-year-old Servando Ayala has been upgraded to good condition.

The 19-year-old Cary man police say was the driver in a one-car crash over the weekend that killed his passenger faces multiple charges, including aggravated DUI, reckless driving, illegal consumption of alcohol and a failure to reduce speed.

Cary Police Chief Steven Casstevens said Tuesday evening that Servando Ayala was being processed at the police department and would be transferred to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred about 1:10 a.m. Saturday near 727 Elden Drive, Cary, when the 1997 Ford Taurus they were in struck a tree.

Passenger Pedro Ayala Jr., of Cary, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

According to the Northwest Herald, Servando Ayala was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. On Monday, the hospital reported Ayala’s condition had been upgraded to good.

Casstevens said Ayala’s bond is set at $75,000.
