A 58-year-old man was seriously injured Saturday in a house fire that fire officials said was intentionally set.
Firefighters responded to 6303 Hillcrest Road in unincorporated McHenry County at 3:35 a.m. Saturday where they found a single-story house with visible smoke and flames. They learned from a bystander that there was still an occupant inside the home, according to a Cary Fire Protection District press release.
Firefighters entered the home and began a search for the victim. They found the man and removed him from the house. He was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington in serious condition, according to the news release.
Fire officials reported the home had a large accumulation of possessions and debris, which hampered both the search and the extinguishment of the fire. The blaze was put out an hour after firefighters arrived at the scene.
A damage estimate is not immediately available. The entire home had smoke and fire damage is uninhabitable.
An arson investigator and K9 unit were called to the scene and the Illinois State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation. The fire was intentionally set and suspicious but remains under investigation.
No firefighters were injured in the blaze.
This was the second house fire Cary Fire Protection District responded to in a 12-hour period. The first was a kitchen fire reported at 5:42 p.m. Friday at 61 Willow Circle.
Firefighters also responded to a porta-potty fire at 6209 Londonderry Drive in the Lake Killarney subdivision in unincorporated McHenry County shortly after midnight Saturday.
